Wine Tasting- Kendall Jackson Pinot Noir

Image
Sunday, February 27, 2022 Hellooo wine peeps! The wine that I tasted this week was the 2019 Kendall Jackson Pinot Noir from Vintner's Reserve in California. This wine is $20.00 per bottle. The Kendall Jackson website describes this wine as a dark garnet gem that delivers bright cherry, strawberry, and raspberry fruit with elegant earthy notes infused with cola and mild spice accents. It also says that it was oak aged which adds a hint of vanilla and a soft, toasty finish.  Recommended Pairings: salmon, roasted chicken, or pasta dishes, mushroom, and pork. Aroma: red fruit, specifically cherry (wine folly textbook page 31) Secondary Aroma: potting soil (wine folly textbook page 31) Tertiary Aroma: cola and vanilla (wine folly textbook page 31) Flavors : This is a dry wine, medium-bodied, and has a high acidity.  Grape Varietal Characteristics: red fruit flavors with a dark blue skin color (wine folly textbook page 150) My Thoughts💭 I thought this wine was pretty good! Wine Dinner #1

Wine Dinner February 12, 2022 Last week I had the chance to pair 3 different wines with 3 different course of a meal! My friend Gabi made homemade ravioli and we had a great 3 course meal with our boyfriends. This was so much fun and I plan to do it many more times with my friends.  Appetizer: Pinot Grigio with Salad with Balsamic Vinaigrette  This wine had a pear and green apple flavor with a hint of citrus flavors. Drinking the wine with the salad brought out the flavors of the balsamic vinaigrette and mellowed out the body for both the wine and the vinaigrette because the strong flavors cancelled out. Dinner: Chianti with Homemade Cheese & Spinach Ravioli and Red Sauce Tasting this wine alone provided flavors of cherry, strawberry, and dried herbs. Pairing the wine with the ravioli was delicious! I got this wine because I read that Chianti pairs especially well with Italian dishes featuring tomato sauce because Tuscany is the land of Chianti. The wine cut the saltiness of the re

Wine and Cheese Tasting #1

First Wine and Cheese Pairing! February 16, 2022 This week my friend Gabi and I paired 3 different wines with 3 different cheeses for a night of fun! Sauvignon Blanc paired with Baked Brie topped with Garlic, Rosemary, and Honey Tasting the wine alone: Aromas: citrus aroma, specifically lemon; no secondary or tertiary aromas Light, acidic, and dry Low levels of tannins Sour finish According to the Wine Folly textbook, sauvignon blanc from New Zealand has ripe pear and kiwi flavors, which I was able to pick up on. Tasting the wine with the cheese: The cheese brought out the pear flavor of the wine. Drinking the wine before the cheese made the cheese taste better because it brought out the sweet flavors of the brie and honey. Cabernet Sauvignon paired with Spring Green Colby Jack Tasting the wine alone: Aromas: the primary aromas were dark berry and cherry, the secondary aroma is cured meat, and the tertiary aroma is oak aged. It is dry, high in tannins because of the salivation after dr

Wine Tasting- Barefoot Pink Moscato

Friday, February 4, 2022 Hello again fellow wine lovers! The wine that I tasted this week was the 2021 Barefoot Pink Moscato made in California, U.S. It is $5.00 per bottle, making it a popular choice among college students and people looking to just have a cheap glass of wine. Total wine describes it as having aromas of mandarin orange and jasmine crashing into each other to create a deliciously sweet sea of pink goodness, with subtle flavors of cherry, raspberry, and pomegranate. Recommended Pairings: walnut and goat cheese salad, pepperoni pizza with pepper flakes, lemon and rosemary chicken, vanilla bean gelato, and fresh fruit. Aroma : tree fruit and red fruit (Wine Folly textbook page 31). Secondary aroma:  pomegranate and nectarine (Wine Folly textbook page 31). Tertiary aroma : cedar (Wine Folly textbook page 31). Flavors : The flavors of this wine are sweet and fruity (Wine Folly textbook page 32). This is an indication that the grapes had a lot of sugar. Grape Varietal Charac
